When you see our Westmoreland Greenhouse Grown stamp, it’s Guaranteed Fresh, Flavorful and Safe!
Westmoreland-TopLine Farms has implemented a comprehensive Food Safety Management System (FSMS) which involves a systematic risk assessment of potential food safety hazards throughout all stages of the food chain. As a grower owned vertically integrated company, this business structure facilitates the implementation of control strategies from farms to fork.
Our greenhouses have a current Food Safety Program which is monitored and formally audited anually by an accredited third party. Products supplied by our company are in full compliance with the standards and procedures set under Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). TopLine Farms’ product integrity begins with premium Non-GMO seedlings, nurtured in a nutrient-rich water solution instead of soil. Our greenhouse products are grown in a biologically controlled environment using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) where good bugs are introduced to control bad bugs (i.e. bumble bees and ladybugs help polinate and protect our vegetables.) IPM is central to a more sustainable method of production and also helps ensure Maximum Residue levels are not exceeded.
Westmoreland-TopLine Farms’ packing & distribution facility is HACCP certiffed by Primus Labs and audited against standards set fourth by Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Our food safety risk assessment and control strategies concentrate on preventing problems rather than detecting them after they have occurred. The foundation of our HACCP plan consists of the detailed written procedures to be followed and maintaining full documentation of results.
Pesticide Residue Testing is conducted to ensure that our products are in compliance with the regulatory requirements in both Canada: Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) and the USA: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Our products are analyzed by Sumner Analytical Services (SAServices), an independant third party labratory which is accredited through the Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program. All products are analyzed to verify allowable tolerances are met as per Maximum Residue Levels (MRL) guidelines and only approved chemicals are applied.
Westmoreland-TopLine Farms’ product recall & traceability program is electronically maintained through a real-time inventory system to rapidly identify, locate and control potentially tainted product. All products entering the warehouse are assigned a pallet tag pertaining to a speciffc lot and each unit can be identiffed during all stages of production. Our product traceability system allows tracing of each unit by grower, harvest date, commodity and country of origin. A mock recall is performed semi-anually to verify the effectiveness of the program.
